I’ve mentioned this before, and in the last couple of weeks, through the Dog Food Advisor website, have seen multiple additional recalls from more manufacturers!
Sadly these recalls are being done only in the US where the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) seems to have more power than the equivalent in Canada. For a long time, I have been telling fellow shoppers in Costco not to buy the Chicken Jerky treats there, but sometimes they look at me suspiciously! Finally, according to Dog Food Advisor: According to a CBC News video, Costco is ignoring Purina’s claims the treats are safe and removing the controversial products from its stores in Canada. Pet food giant, Purina, defiantly claims these products are safe for Canadian consumers – even though they’ve been found to contain drug residue – and do not meet standards for sale in the USA.”
Purina is not the only problem as there are MANY more distributors of these contaminant-plagued treats which can cause kidney malfunction or failure). Please read this latest notice, and I recommend you sign up for their Dog Food Recall Alerts by Email. so that you will see all the recalls that occur plus get their independent ratings on dry and wet dog foods. Most of the info is US based, but it can help you make some good choices. A little information is never a bad thing!
